Hi Guy's, this is my first post, been brousing and enjoying your forum for a while now.

I have a screaching noise (best as i can describe it) on full lock when throttle is applied, now the noise is not the belt as it was replace 2 months ago and is tight, could it be the alternator pulley or something like that??

Thanks

its a galaxy mk2 2003 tdi zetec 115bhp

It could be a tensioner pulley wheel or anything else attached to the drivebelt.

Can you visually see anything wobbling or jumping about.

I would double check the belt though and make sure it isn't sticking.

Thanks Kev, i'll check to see if anythings wobbling tomorrow.

Hope this isn't a stupid question but what could cause the belt to stick?

Cheers Rob.

When you have your power steering on full lock it is likely to overload the pump which will require more power than the drivebelt can provide.

As the belt goes around the pully wheel on the pump the belt will be dragged over it causing a screeching sound.

Or possibly the belt will be dragged over the main drive pulley again causing a screeching sound.

Did you have any problems before the belt was changed ?

Not sure if it has a genuine alternator belt, do you think a new genuine belt would be worth a try if i can't see anything else wrong?
